why New York City

New York City is considered the capital of the world. With its diverse ethnic fabric and nonstop rhythm, the city represents a beacon to millions of people in the United States and beyond. As home for the United Nations, New York hosts the heads of state during the United Nations General Assembly week in September. YPHIL-International Youth Philharmonic Orchestra will contribute to the achievements of the United Nations by demonstrating to the world leaders that their youth can come together and unite in one symphonic voice.

be your nation's VOICE

yphil International Youth Philharmonic Orchestra project

Every person on the planet is a note in a greater symphony, telling his or her story of joy, sadness, or peace. All we need to do is listen. Notes may link together, turning into melodies and songs that are powerful and strong. YPHIL-International Youth Philharmonic Orchestra will be the symbol of this voice of world fraternity, leaving behind all conflicts and wars to come together in music. 100 extraordinary and powerful performers of the world will create one symphonic voice.

YPHIL-International Youth Philharmonic Orchestra will raise awareness for global youth issues and empower the youth through music. The participating young musical talents will perform on the same day their presidents represent their countries at the United Nations during the General Assembly meetings in New York City. While global leaders discuss the ways to make the world a more peaceful place, young voices from around the globe will show their leaders that peace and unity are possible, by coming together in a powerful musical platform.

YPHIL-International Youth Philharmonic Orchestra envisions including more than 100 young musicians from more than 70 different countries for its first year. Young musicians between the ages of 18 to 26 will come from a wide range of cultural, linguistic, ethnic and religious backgrounds to take part in this ensemble. Creating this festival of peace and fraternity will empower the voices of our youth, promote peace and dialogue, and raise awareness for universal youth issues. Through new and traditional social media, the Youth Philharmonic will reach out to millions of people to convey its powerful musical message.

YPHIL-International Youth Philharmonic Orchestra will perform its first orchestral piece at the Carnegie Hall in New York City. An internationally recognized and respected conductor will lead the Orchestra.

Young musicians will be selected according to their talent, the instruments they play and the countries they represent. During the selection process, the jury will take geographical diversity in consideration in order to make the orchestra as representative as possible of the world's youth. Selected students will receive online training programs by expert music teachers. After the initial online training, selected young musicians will be brought to New York 22 days before the concert to attend rehearsal camp and program. These young musicians from various countries will be incorporated with an existing 80-member choir and a 30-member ethnic folk dance ensemble to deepen and enhance the music and message.

There will be outdoor and indoor concerts at various locations throughout New York City during the rehearsal period. YPHIL-International Youth Orchestra will finally come together at Carnegie Hall, where they will demonstrate powerfully that youth can come together to promote dialogue, coexistence, peace, and above all unity.

Contemporary composers will create unique pieces for the Youth Philharmonic concert. These pieces will include music from around the world, and each participating young musician will perform his or her local music as part of the orchestra.

An international celebrity will host the concert, which will consist of two programs. Young musicians will perform during the first part, while the celebrity participant will join them at the second half of the performance.

The first concert will take place in Carnegie Hall. All rehearsals and the first concert will be filmed, produced and distributed as a documentary and made available to audiences that cannot attend the event. We hope and aim for the concert to take place in the years that follow at a larger venue such as Madison Square Garden, to accommodate an even larger audience.

On September 2016 at Carnegie Hall, these young musicians will perform together, becoming a voice of the world.
